Corrugated Tunnels – Mt Isa

George Fisher Zinc Conveyor Tunnels

1300m2 Applied to geotextile and corrugated steel plate tunnel

The Situation: The George Fisher zinc-silver mine surface crushing operation had new escape and discharge conveyor tunnels being constructed at Mount Isa and they required waterproofing to protect them from both leakage and rust.

The Solution: The outer tunnel surfaces were sprayed with a coating of a cold spray-applied membrane to a nominal thickness of 2mm. Where gaps in the plates occurred around the bract fittings, they were covered by a geotextile "bandage", then all sealed with a 2mm coat of a cold spray-applied membrane. The result was a smooth, even, waterproof cold spray-applied membrane surface over the entire tunnel, ready for backfilling.
