Liquid Boot® in Queensland
Liquid Boot® is a cold sprayed, seamless, polymer modified bituminous membrane (essentially a synthetic rubber) that has been in use in the construction industry in the USA since the 1970s and in Australia since the 1990s. Primary uses include waterproofing and gas vapour membranes.
It can be applied equally as well to flat, vertical or overhead surfaces and because it has instant set-up, it will not fall back or sag.

Application is a single spray incorporating a 2 part process that mixes the base product A and catalyst B at a calibrated spray head which causes the product to ’set’ to over 90% on contact with the sprayed surface. So quick is the set-up process that the operators can walk on the product as they spray.
The spray ratio of 8:1 is not critical as the catalyst does not form part of the finished material. Its sole purpose is to promote the instant set-up and assist in the extraction of water from the product to leave behind the solids.
Maximum cure time is 72 hrs dependent on atmospheric conditions.
Liquid Boot® has any number of applications including but not limited to, planter boxes, potable water containment, remedial irrigation work, sealing of problem roofs including asbestos and all forms of major construction requirements.
It has exceptional bonding properties to most surfaces including metal and provides excellent protection against such things as salt and acid sulphates.
Because it is cold sprayed using simple equipment, it lends very well to sites which may be difficult to access or have complex protrusions and very large areas which require quick laying/curing and seamless application such as dams, water courses, proofing membranes and so on.
The product is water borne, environmentally sensitive and contains no VOCs or offensive odours.
Advantages when used in construction:
- Time-savings can be considerable, a team of 3 men can lay up to 1000 sq mtrs per day.
- Liquid Boot® can be applied to damp surfaces. (no ponding or running water)
- Liquid Boot® can be applied in temperatures above 0ºC.
- Liquid Boot® can be applied to flat, vertical or overhead surfaces.
- Cure time to 90% is literally seconds, total cure time is a maximum of 72 hours subject to weather conditions.
- Liquid Boot® has a tested stretch capability of 1300% with a 90% + recovery.
Standards/Acceptance:
- Liquid Boot® has been assessed by the CSIRO for use/applicability in the Australian Construction Industry (CSIRO Technical Assessment 304 - Acrobat PDF, 384 KB)
- The NSW Department of Mineral Resources (DMR - Mines) has tested the product and subsequently issued a document containing all test results in respect to underground use.
- Liquid Boot® has passed testing by the Australian Water Quality Centre under AS/NZS 4020 requirements for use in Potable Water containment
- It has many USA industry recognitions tested under US Standards procedures including the International Standard for Potable Water ANSI/NSF 61.
Over 4.6 million square meters of Liquid Boot® has been installed under Hospitals, Schools, Libraries, High-rise Commercial and Residential Buildings, Single Family Housing Developments, and Major Public Works Projects throughout Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan and the United States.
