Brownfield Site Membrane – Building Renovation, Nth Melbourne

Pumphouse Apartments, Stage 2 Basement – North Melbourne, Victoria

500m2 Vapour Barrier and geovent system under basement

The Situation: Contaminated soil on an old coal gas pumping station site had to be sealed before the building could be renovated as part of a unit development project.

The Solution: A Geovent system was designed for the site. It was laid out on a gravel bed across the basement floor, covered in geotextile and then sealed with a 2mm coat of a cold spray-applied membrane, with risers protruding to allow venting. Venting was also installed around the upper wall surfaces, covered in fibrous-cement sheeting mounted on batterns and then that was also sprayed, forming a gas-vapour barrier all around the basement.
