Bridge Deck Waterproofing – Brisbane

William Jolly Bridge Deck Waterproofing Trial

1120m2 Applied to bitumen.

trial waterproofing, under bitumen

The Situation: Water was leaking through the bitumen onto the deck of Brisbane City Council’s William Jolly Bridge. Previous waterproofing agent used had failed due to the high pressure stresses placed upon it by the vehicles (especially busses, as it is in a bus lane) braking and decelerating across the bridge deck surface.

The Solution: Cold spray-applied membrane sprayed at 1.5mm between two layers of bitumen to completely seal the surface. The bottom layer of bitumen was used as a smooth leveling layer due to the extremely rough condition of the bridge pavement after removal of the previous bitumen layer. After more than ten years of constant use, the bitumen over the cold spray-applied membrane is holding very successfully, with no slippage at all.
