Mangoola CHPP – Reclaim Tunnel

The Situation: A galvanised steel Multiplate Arch tunnel was to be installed for the Mangoola Coal Project in the Hunter Valley, NSW. All joints needed to be sealed to prevent water getting into the tunnel and the entire outer surface of the tunnel needed to have a protective coating applied.

The Solution: A coating of cold spray-applied membrane was spray-applied to the outer surface of the tunnel to form a seamless membrane which would both waterproof the tunnel and protect the steel from corrosion. The membrane was then covered by a protective geotextile layer to prevent damage to the membrane during back-filling around the tunnel.
