Cooling Tower Basin Lining – Condamine

Condamine Power Station, near Miles, Qld

1000m2 Applied to a concrete cooling tower basin.

The Situation: The concrete of the Condamine Power Station cooling tower basin needed to be lined, in order to protect its surface from the cooling water. The lining needed to be able to withstand water with high pH, warm temperatures and significant flow rates. It also had to allow for the large number of protrusions caused by the framework of the structure.

The Solution: The old concrete surfaces were grit-blasted to prepare a smooth, clean surface ready for membrane application. A cant of trowel-grade membrane product was applied to form a coving at the wall/floor joints and framework footings inside the basin. A cold spray-applied membrane was then sprayed at a nominal thickness of 2mm to the internal surfaces of the basin, including the protruding framework, forming a completely sealed, protective lining.
