The Situation: The Gold Coast Light Railway depot was to be built on a capped and unlined landfill site, generating landfill gases including methane and carbon monoxide. Protection measures were required for the safety of personnel on and off-site.

The Solution: A Geovent system was designed for the site. An underground venting grid system was designed and laid out upon the Depot site, with a cold spray-applied membrane installed onto geotextile base under the Administration and Storage buildings, Lift Pits and Maintenance Pits. A layer of CetCoat was also applied to the Pit walls, as additional protection. Permanent gas monitoring points were installed throughout the site, to access the venting system.
